 Your Watercolor Lesson is"Winter Landscape"

Step#1-Old Candle & Tape

A-Draw a horizon line above 1/2 point of paper.

B-Draw a small tree with pencil.

C-Apply 2 pieces of 1" masking tape, starting from 2" below horizonline to the top edge of paper.

D-Trace over the pencil tree using the tip end of 1" diameter candle.

 

 Step#2-Creating Sky

A-Brush on clean water to sky area

B-Use the 3 primary colors of:yellow, red, blue

C-Apply strong watery 'yellow' stroke 1 1/2" wide above horizon

D-Apply strong watery 'red' stroke 3/4" overlappping yellow, continue red 1" more

E-Apply strong watery 'blue'stroke 3/4" overlapping the red, continue to top of page.

F-To create fall foliage treeline look- mix Y&B for green shade using a round brush dab to create tree above the horizon part of the way across; then do the same with Y&R, and R&B. Interchange colors

Step#3-Stream & Riverbank

A-While top 1/2 is drying,pencil in lightly, 2 S-strokes across bottom to create a stream
B-To create shading on right bank of stream, mix R&B and apply freely
C-Then edge left bank with light blue
D-Coat stream area with Y/R
E-Apply thin blue wash to rear of stream to shade left bank

Step#4-BirchTrees

A-Carefully remove both pieces of tape leaving unpainted trees
B-Apply light Y/R wash to trees
C-For shading of birch trees apply mix of Y/R/B(grey) to left edges of trees, add details to get knot effects
D-Using Dark Grey(add blue) take fine detail brush to paint brances and shadows to tree.
E-Waxed tree resists all paint and remains white, highlite with grey
