Look Guys ! "I Blew Up A Toon" Amaze your friends with an incredible feat of your artistic powers....BLOW UP your favorite cartoon!! |
Step#1- The SET UPA-First, find a cartoon that you want to blow up.(Actually, make bigger or, in artist-lingo 'enlarge') I like to look in the Sunday comics. You and I can choose Garfield for this example, OK?B-Now carefully cut out the cartoon you've chosen cutting on the black line of the box.C-Fold the cartoon into four boxes. To do this first fold the cartoon in half from left to right. Then fold it in half again, this time from top to bottom. |

Step#2-The PAPERA-Use a large sheet of paper. A 12" by 18" sheet works well with a rectangular cartoon.B-Now divide your paper into four sections just like you did with the small cartoon.C-Be careful and use a ruler to measure equal halves. First left to right. Then draw a pencil line from the top to the bottom. Then measure the side to get half the distance from top to bottom. Then draw a pencil line across the middle of the paper. You should now have a big cross drawn on your paper.D-Now number the four boxes in your cartoon and on your paper to match the example here. |

Step#3- The BLOW UPNow for the fun part! Set your pencil for 'stun'!A-The basic idea is to draw part #1 of the cartoon onto the section of the paper labeled #1.B-Draw everything on the paper that you see in the cartoon, only BIGGER.C-Since your paper is bigger than the cartoon, the drawing will be bigger. This is called 'to scale'.D-Begin in box #1 then go to #2, then #3 and finally #4.Finish one box at a time, don't jump around. |

Step#4-The FINAL DRAWINGA-Once you've copied the whole cartoon onto you paper, it's to CONCEAL THE EVIDENCE - you don't want to give away your tricks, do you?B-First, erase your box numbers and the pencil lines of your boxes.C-Next, out line your drawing with a black marker. Be sure to outline all of the details of the drawing. Be careful to outline Garfield's eyes, mouth--even the details in the background of the cartoon.D-Be sure that all the pencil marks and the stuff from the eraser is all cleaned off of the paper. |
