Artist's Statement

For many years, even as a child, I have had feelings about the passage of time. I have longed to make a kind of contact with human beings that have lived in the past.

The desire to make this type of contact has developed my own artwork. I have experienced art works by artists no longer living as communication from past to present. Bust as an artist I feel that I can bring together all kinds of people, ones I see around me and ones who no longer are living in the present but who shared our earth. My aim is to evoke a dialogue of my own between people and time.

The work is fantasy, but the feelings expressed are real. The realistic figures are not literal but, hopefully, project a certain reality. They express the experience of being in the center of a timeless continuum.

Painting Techniques : I work in layers and transparencies using oil on canvas or panels. I sometimes include ink and photographic images on the panels.

Ceramic Techniques : I draw on clay with a pin tool and apply stains and glazes before the second firing in a kiln. Line is the dominant form of my expression in clay. The volume gained in three-dimensional clay relates to the drawn line in a way not possible on a two dimensional surface. The images of people are caught in the split second of time. Transformations of line and volume convey the tension and energy of living spirits.
