 Desert Tapestry

 Zafra Segelman

Textile Artist

In her extraordinary works, Zafra Segelman utilizes woven fabrics, embroidery, and gauze threads to create a rich tapestry that conveys feelings of connection and continuity. A daughter of the founding members of kibbutz Kfar Menachem, it is Mrs. Segelman's strong belief that life, community, family, and art are inextricably linked. This view is express in her unique work, which has been exhibited extensively throughout Israel, and in the United States.

Zafra first discovered the magic and beauty of fiber while studying design and sculpture with textiles. She found a special satisfaction in creating art from remnants of fabrics and other such discarded materials.

Zafra currently resides with her family in Kfar Menachem where she teaches arts and crafts in the regional high school. She also teaches design with fiber for artistically talented youth at Achva College. Additionally, she is involved with the artistic endeavors of the reform community.
