Artist's Statement

"Light has always fascinated me. It brings out color, texture, and shapes. It helps to create moods. Whether it is the soft light of an overcast day or the bright light of the midday sun, light is the essence of photography."

About the Artist

Ray Turkin has enjoyed photography for over 30 years. He is following in the footsteps of his father who gave him the inspiration to pursue this avenue of artistic expression.

Ray's interest in hiking and his extensive travel have afforded him the opportunity to capture nature's beauty through this medium. His emphasis is on the use of natural light to bring out subtle colors, textures, and shapes, as well as to create moods.

Ray exhibited his photographs at The Cottage Place Gallery in Ridgewood, NJ and at the Atrium Gallery at the YJCC of Bergen County, NJ. He participated in past Pascack Art Association's Fine Art Shows in Westwood,NJ, various Hoboken Art and Music Festivals, and the 1999 Hoboken City Hall Holiday Craft Fair. He exhibited his photographs at The Showcase in Teaneck and in solo shows at Borders Books and Music in Paramus,NJ, and the Teaneck Public Library. He also participated in the Smith School's 9th Annual Art Exhibit and Sale in Tenafly. Ray's photography has been accepted for a solo exhibit at the Waltuch Gallery at the JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly, NJ.

Ray received a High Achievement Award in 2000 and an Honorable Mention Award in 1999 at the Annual Pascack Art Assoc. Art in the Park Fine Art Show.
