Biography
"The Ramapo River Artist"
54 Island Terrace, Oakland, NJ 07436
201.337.0333
On the banks of the Ramapo River, Ruth holds art classes for students of all ages. Ruth Schuyler delights both young and old with her infectious personality, charm, and her love of art. Her paintings are spontaneous and free, filled with exciting colors.
Paintings and inspirational messages of hope and joy line the walls of her 'red barn studio', where she has painted and taught for 25 years.
Ruth's career started at Gateway School in Hackensack, NJ, where she instructed children in art for over 10 years. She has also led courses in 'costume and makeup' at William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ. She was also 'fine art' lecturer on the cruise ship Queen Elizabeth II.
She studied with many great painters and teachers: Arthur Maynard, Margaret Ward, Florian Kraner, Paul Burns, and the Philip Sherrod Art Students League of NYC. She continues to take inspiration from workshops around the world and has toured Europe painting it's charm and continuing to add to her knowledge and experiences.
Ruth Schuyler served as past President of the Oakland Art Association and past Vice President of the Ringwood Manor Art Association. She is a member of the Hackensack Art Association, the Ridgewood Art Barn of Ridgewood, NJ. and the Community Arts Association of Allendale, NJ.
Ruth has won many awards for her artistic achievements in watercolor, oils, and acrylics. She has won 'the gift' award at the Bergen Mall in Paramus, NJ. She continues to win top prizes at many art shows, such as the Ringwood Association's 'watercolor' prize.
But Ruth is more than an 'artist' to her students and friends. She also counsels them on 'how to get in touch' with their innermost selves and most of all 'how to love life'.
